Match Preview
Promotion-chasing Derby welcome mid-table dwellers Leeds to Pride Park in round 33 of the Championship. The hosts are just three points off second place going into this round and will be looking to get back on track after the recent loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the last round.
To do so, ‘the Rams’ need to start turning draws into wins – as they’re unbeaten in seven but have drawn three of the last four in front of their own fans.
Leeds might just provide a useful opponent at the moment. The Lancashire outfit have not won away from home since Christmas, and have fallen to four defeats in their last five games (in all competitions). Leeds have also lost eight of their last nine matches against Derby at Pride Park.
Derby keeper Scott Carson, who made his professional debut for Leeds, is eager to face his old side who recently hired Paul Heckingbottom as their new manager, but wants his teammates to focus on their own performance: “We’ve got a lot to play for ourselves and we need to get back on track, because it’s all in our hands.”
Players to watch: Derby striker Matej Vydra is the league’s top scorer with 17 goals, and has scored in two home matches in a row. More of the same?
Pierre-Michel Lasogga is currently in great form for Leeds, and has four goals in his last five matches.
Stat attack: Derby have had a lot of tight matches at home so far this season, and just four out of 16 matches at Pride Park have ended with over 2.5 goals scored.
All or nothing. Leeds have drawn just once in 16 away matches (W7, D1, L8). They’ve kept a clean sheet in five matches, but conceded at least two goals in six.
In the last five head to head games, there’s been a total of 18 yellow (3.6 on average) and one red card awarded.
