Match Preview
The final game of matchday 24 sees second-placed Dortmund welcoming tenth-placed Augsburg. While Augsburg have prepared for this match all-week long, Dortmund played in the Europa League (making the last 16) midweek.
As a show of anger against just the second unloved Monday night game, the main Dortmund fan groups have announced a boycott and the notorious South Stand will be less crowded than usual.
BVB (Dortmund) are back on track under manager Peter Stöger and have won the last three games and are eight unbeaten in the league. On the other hand, Augsburg have become a little unsteady and have lost their last two Bundesliga games. This is the first time this season that Augsburg have not collected at least one point for two games in a row.
A duel of nimble feet? Only Leverkusen have clocked more sprints than these two teams this season – Augsburg have made 5,281 sprints, whilst Dortmund have clocked 5,010 sprints.
Players to watch: Dortmund’s goalkeeper Roman Bürki has regained his good form and set a season record against Mönchengladbach last weekend with eleven saved shots (on target).
After scoring against Monchengladbach (his first goal in nearly a year), injury-ravaged midfielder Marco Reus saw 14 BVB defeats in his absence (all competitions). Augsburg are one of Reus’ favourite opponents, in nine meetings, he has four goals and five assists.
Stat attack: The balance clearly favours BVB as they have won eight of the previous 13 Bundesliga clashes. In seven of these 13 games BVB scored at least three goals.
The Signal-Iduna Park in Dortmund is one of the two highest scoring stadiums with 43 goals. On average, the fans see more than 3.5 goals per game.
