Match Preview

For Arsenal, victory over West Ham is a must if the Gunners are to stay in contention for fifth place in the Premier League (PL). With the recent news that Arséne Wenger will end his 21-year reign at the end of the season, he will want to leave on a positive note and see the Gunners into Europe one last time.
With 14 goals, Arsenal are second only to Manchester City in terms of goals scored if only the last five home games counted. By contrast, West Ham have conceded the most goals out of any team in the league (13) in a five-game away form table.
For West Ham, 35 points from 33 games is a highly encouraging tally where PL survival is concerned. The east end club has managed to survive in the PL with fewer points after 33 games on three occasions – in 1997, 2007 and 2010.
Only one of the sides’ last eight encounters at the Emirates has seen West Ham escape with a clean sheet, with the Hammers also conceding 3+ goals in four of their last five league visits.
In a stat that puts more pressure on West Ham, Arsenal have led in ten home matches at the break, and won every time.
Players to watch: Alexandre Lacazette was back amongst the goals in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle. His link up play with Pierre Aubameyang on that occasion was, hopefully for Arsenal, a taste of days to come.
Back in August 2015, Cheikhou Kouyate was on the scoresheet in what was West Ham’s only win at Arsenal in the past decade. Currently on just two goals, he will need to improve on his shooting from deep midfield, with a current shot accuracy rate of 25% at present.
Stat attack: David Moyes has never managed to win at the Emirates Stadium as an opposition manager, and has a managerial record there of: W0, D4, L6.
The visitors travel here on a run of just one win in their last 21 games against Arsenal, with the spectre of relegation still not entirely gone. However, Arsenal have scored first in four out of their last five encounters with West Ham, winning three of them.
