Match Preview

Four-time Ligue 1 (L1) winners Nice face Rennes at the Allianz Riviera this Friday, with the visitors hoping to put an end to their six-games winless streak against their hosts in the league (D2, L4).
Winless in their three first league games (D1, L2), with both losses coming at home, Nice come into this one on the back of an important 1-0 win away to Lyon – their first clean sheet in their last seven games in L1.
After a loss away to Lille in the opening round, Rennes have come back strongly and are unbeaten in three games following a 2-0 home win over Bordeaux last time out. However, Sabri Lamouchi’s men are still winless on the road in L1 (D1, L1), conceding at least two goals in each game.
Interestingly, the last three occasions that Rennes have failed to win any of their three first away games of a L1 season, they have not finished higher than ninth!
In 44 top-flight H2H games here, Nice have the upper hand with 27 wins to Rennes eight, while ten were draws. Nice have also scored almost twice as many as they have conceded in that time: GF 87, GA 44.
Players to watch: Rennes midfielder Benjamin André has one goal and one assist in L1 this season, while the mercurial Mario Balotelli returned for Nice last week and did score against Rennes last season.
Stat attack: In their last two home games, Nice have recorded 35 shots on goal without scoring once!
Yet, Nice have the lowest average shots on target per game ratio (2.5) of any L1 team this season.
Rennes have scored at least one goal in each of their last 16 away games in the top flight.
Seven of the last 12 L1 games at Nice between the sides have been either 1-0 or 1-1.
