The UEFA Nations League (UNL) sees Armenia and Gibraltar face off for the first-time in history. These sides currently occupy the bottom two places of League D, Group 4, although while relegation is not possible from this league, national pride is at stake.
Armenia have won their only UNL home game so far (vs Liechtenstein) – that was also their first competitive home win since March 2017. Despite this, Armenia have lost just three of their past 12 home games in all competitions (W6, D3, L3) notably, two of those losses came to teams ranked far higher than them.
Separated from Armenia by 98 places in the FIFA rankings, Gibraltar (198th) have won just one game in their past 27 (W1, D1, L25), a period which stretches back to June 2014.
Not only do Gibraltar lose the vast majority of their games, they struggle to even find the net. The visitors have lost to nil in nine of their last 12 matches, and it gets worse when only away form is considered – Gibraltar have scored just a single goal in their last 723 minutes of international football away from the Rock.
Players to watch: Despite missing a penalty on matchday one, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is Armenia’s most prized asset with 23 goals from 61 International caps.
Shockingly, Liam Walker is Gibraltar’s joint-record scorer with just two goals – a stat which typifies what to expect from the visitors.
Stat attack: Armenia have been winning at both HT/FT in three of their last four international victories.
Gibraltar have lost both UNL games to date 2-0, with goals coming between the 30th and 45th minute in each match.
Both sides have received at least two bookings in each of their UNL matches so far.
