Match Preview

Burnley return to Turf Moor this weekend following their 5-0 drubbing away at the hands of Manchester City, their fourth league defeat this season by a difference of two or more goals. For Chelsea, thanks to a last-gasp Ross Barkley equaliser last weekend against Manchester United, it’s now no league defeat in nine games (W6, D3), their best start to a league season after nine games since 2014/15.
Having managed just one home league win so far this season, Burnley now face the daunting task of taking on a Chelsea side who they have never beaten in the Premier League at home (L3, D1). The ‘Clarets’ failed to beat any of the top six sides last season at home (L5, D1) and managed to score just three goals whilst conceding ten.
As the league’s best passers (6,339 successful passes over nine league games), it’s hardly surprising that 14 of Chelsea’s 20 league goals this season have come from open play. They have scored the opening goal in 78% of their league matches and dropped just four points from those winning positions.
Both teams have scored in six of the previous seven meetings between the two sides, with five of those games seeing over 2.5 goals.
Players to watchJoe Hart (BUR) has saved more shots than any other goalkeeper in the league this season (40). Hart will have to be at his best to keep out the formidable Eden Hazard (CHE), as Hazard is the league’s top goal scorer and has scored seven goals in his previous seven games.
Stat attack: There have been two or more goals in each of the last eight meetings between the two sides.
Chelsea haven’t been behind at half-time in any of their nine league games.
Burnley have avoided defeat in each home game they have scored first in this season (in all competitions: W3, D1).
