Match Preview

Having won eight of their last ten encounters against Freiburg (W8, D1, L1), a rejuvenated Bayern Munich side will be happy to face the Bundesliga’s 11th placed team in this encounter.
With cup progression midweek following on from a 2-1 win at Mainz, Niko Kovač’s team now have four consecutive wins across all competitions, showing indicators that the dark cloud that loomed over Bayern over the past month could be clearing.
The hosts are unbeaten in 41 of their last 43 Bundesliga home games since March 2016 (W33, D8, L2), although they are yet to register a clean sheet in a home league match this season. The Bavarian outfit do, however, have the division’s joint-second best defensive record with ten goals conceded.
Despite Freiburg’s elimination from the DFB-Pokal midweek by second-tier side Holstein Kiel, Christian Streich’s men have lost just one of their last seven Bundesliga games (W3, D3, L1).
However the visitors have picked up maximum points on the road just once this calendar year, and will have to improve tremendously on their away league form if they want to beat Bayern at the Allianz Arena in a top-flight game for the first time in Freiburg’s history.
Key battles: Bayern hitman Robert Lewandowski has scored five goals in eight Bundesliga games this season. The Pole will face-off against Freiburg goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, who has kept only three clean sheets in nine league appearances so far.
Stat attack: Each of the last seven shots on target at Bayern’s goal in the Bundesliga have found the net – Manuel Neuer hasn’t made a save in the league for 338 minutes.
Bayern have been winning at HT/FT in four of their last six Bundesliga meetings against Freiburg.
Freiburg have scored in each of their last five competitive away fixtures.
