Match Preview

If first-placed Serbia claim victory against Montenegro they could clinch UEFA Nations League (UNL) promotion before their final game. However their second-placed visitors aren’t out of the running yet – an away victory would leapfrog them above Serbia and into the promotion driving seat going into the final matchday.
The hosts remain unbeaten in their UNL campaign (W2, D2), as well as their last six competitive home matches (W3, D3), conceding exactly two goals in three of those six games.
Impressive so far, Serbia have led three of their UNL fixtures by a 1-0 scoreline at half-time. Their tournament matches have notably been drama-filled, with Serbia awarded five penalties over the four games, although only three of them were converted.
This might not be one of the competition’s marquee fixtures, but with much at stake for Montenegro, along with a red card or penalty in each of their four UNL games so far, this clash does have the hallmarks of a potentially dramatic and hard-fought game.
The visitors have been marginally better on the road than at home so far, picking up four of their seven points away (W1, D1). That included a 4-1 hammering of Lithuania in their last away outing, continuing a trend of three or more match goals in four of Montenegro’s last five competitive away fixtures.
Players to watch: Serbia’s Aleksandar Mitrović has four UNL goals, including both in the 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture.
In goalscoring form, Montenegro’s Stefan Mugoša has seven goals in his last eight appearances for club and country.
Stat attack: The last time Serbia failed to score in a competitive home match was back in October 2014.
Seven of Montenegro’s last ten matches had a first-half goal. The three that didn’t, ended 0-0.
Both teams have scored in three of Serbia’s, and three of Montenegro’s, last ten fixtures.
