Match Preview

With a 2-0 home victory over France on Friday, the Netherlands became the first team to beat the World Cup champions following the summer finals. They now journey to already relegated Germany, knowing just a draw will secure a route to the UEFA Nations League (UNL) finals.
Winless in four-consecutive competitive matches, Germany are embroiled in their worst run since 1999/00. They’ve won just one of six competitive games this year (W1, D1, L4), failing to score in four of those.
Yet despite that, Germany’s home record in 2018 doesn’t look too disastrous, winning three of six games and losing just once (W3, D2, L1) – albeit all three victories were friendlies. The Germans conceded exactly one goal in four of those six, and since June 2016 have only conceded more than a single goal at home once.
The Netherlands have scored exactly one goal in four-consecutive away matches (including friendlies) but have failed to win any of those games – their worst winless streak on foreign soil since June-August 2012.
Their 3-0 reverse fixture triumph over Germany last month was the first time the Dutch have beaten Germany to nil in the post-war period. Germany still edge the H2H count however, coming away with 15 victories and a few Dutch bicycles since their first encounter back in 1910 (W15, D15, L11).
Players to watch: In-form Memphis Depay got a goal in the reverse fixture and sealed the Dutch win against France last week. Meanwhile, Bayern midfielder Serge Gnabry’s goal against Russia in Germany’s last outing made it four in four caps.
Stat attack: In four of the last five games Germany have scored in, they netted in the first-half.
The Netherlands have conceded the opener in each of their last four away games.
Five of Germany’s last ten matches have ended with a 2-1 scoreline (three wins, two defeats).
