Match Preview

Two years after Wolves dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup, the ‘Reds’ have the opportunity to gain vengeance, and double down on their win at Molineux last month. Though Wolves have undoubtedly drawn the ‘short straw’, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have gained respectable results against the current Premier League (PL) top six this season (W2, D3, L2).
At home, it’s been either/or for Wolves recently, with their last eight PL matches seeing them win three times and lose five, with just one team finding the net in six of them. Curiously, a 2-0 scoreline (to either side) has been the result here in those six as well, including Liverpool’s visit in December.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are licking their wounds after a 2-1 defeat against title rivals Manchester City back on Thursday. Still, the defeat came after eight straight victories for Liverpool. They had kept five clean sheets within that sequence, and have a total aggregate score of 24-5 in their favour from their last nine matches, scoring three goals or more on five occasions.
Though Liverpool have lost all of their non-PL away games this season, it is worth noting that Liverpool have not conceded a single goal in four visits to Molineux, in a sequence stretching back to 2010. Additionally, Wolves’ last home win against Liverpool came way back in August 1981.
Players to watchHelder Costa has shown signs of form recently, and was pivotal in Wolves’ famous win at Anfield in January 2017, getting two assists.
For Liverpool, Xherdan Shaqiri has scored six goals this season despite having only limited playing time.
Stat attack: Four of the last five H2H encounters have produced over 2.5 goals.
The last five Wolves matches have averaged 3.2 yellow cards in total.
Liverpool have scored a first-half goal in six of their last seven matches (all competitions).
