Match Preview

Champions League aspirants Deportivo Alaves have dropped out of the La Liga (LL) top six with three consecutive losses, but are now presented with a great opportunity to bounce back against one of the league’s worst travelling sides of late in Levante.
Ahead of this round, Alaves are just one of seven clubs to have won two or fewer of their last ten LL matches (W2, D3, L5), and have dropped points against two bottom-half sides in Athletic Bilbao and Rayo Vallecano in their last three home games.
Remarkably, Levante have not tasted victory away from home since back-to-back wins against Real Madrid and Getafe in October, following up three consecutive draws with three straight losses.
Before that, they had defeated three teams currently in the top six (as of publication) on the road (W3, L2), but will need to shake off the rut that has seen them win just once in their last eight LL matches (W1, D3, L4).
The visitors will need to be particularly switched on after the break: Alaves are currently enjoying a +4 second-half goal difference (GD) at home; conversely, Levante’s second-half GD of -7 away from home is the division’s joint-fourth worst.
Players to watch: Alaves have won three of four games when Borja Bastón has found the back of the net, while Roger Martí (Levante) has gone three or more matches without scoring just once this season.
Stat attack: Alaves have a W1, L1 record as a home favourite, while Levante have been the outsider in all 11 LL away matches (W3, D3, L5).
Levante have conceded more shots per away game (23.6) than any other LL club.
One or neither team scored in Alaves’ last three LL matches, as well as in Levante’s last four.
The home side on the day has won two of the last three top-flight H2Hs.
