Dynamo Kiev need a quickfire start after losing the first leg 3-0 in London, but they have managed to win just one of four Europa League (EL) home games this season by a margin of multiple goals. Overall, their EL games at home have been relatively quiet in the first half, with the last three each producing a 1-0 half-time scoreline either way.
The owner of that 1-0 half-time lead on the night has gone on to win the match, with that scoreline being final on the last two occasions. The most recent of these (vs Olympiakos) also represents Dynamo’s most recent home win against a top-seeded team (like Chelsea) drawn from pot 1 for the group stage.
That obviously won’t be enough for Dynamo though, and Chelsea are unbeaten in six EL away games stretching back to 2013 (W5, D1). However, expectations of a Chelsea win by a multiple-goal margin on foreign soil are tempered by the fact that all five of those wins have come by just one goal.
Even though Chelsea have not always been required to field their strongest XI in the EL, and need not play at 100% here, it is worth noting that they often win in style, with three of their last four EL wins seeing them score 3+ without reply.
Players to watchDenys Garmash recently hit a first-half brace as Dynamo romped the weekend’s Kiev derby in a 4-0 win over Arsenal Kiev.
Still impressing in the EL for Chelsea, three of the London club’s last four EL wins have seen a goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Stat attack: In 2019 alone, only one of the 20 match goals produced by Dynamo’s competitive fixtures has arrived in the first 15 minutes.
Across all competitions, five of Dynamo’s last six matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
Chelsea’s last four EL wins have seen them take a 2-0 lead at one point.
