Aston Villa have endured a tough run of fixtures recently and have faced four of the ‘Big Six’ in their last six Premier League (PL) games. They have understandably struggled for form during this period (W1, D1, L4), but now come up against another in-form outfit in Leicester City.
Villa Park has at least started to become something of a fortress for Villa as they’ve now lost just one of their previous six PL matches here (W3, D2, L1). Those three wins make up 75% of their overall PL victory count this season, and they’ve gained a 68.75% win rate across their last 16 home clashes in all competitions.
After eight straight wins in all competitions, successfully outscoring their opponents 24-3 across that period, Leicester City appear to be able to do no wrong. Brendan Rodgers’ team have won 11 PL games after 15 games, the most the club has ever achieved at this point in a league campaign.
It’s also four straight away league wins for Leicester, which included their club record 9-0 win at Southampton in October. They’ve lost only to Liverpool and Manchester United on their travels this season, and ahead of this round they possess the joint-best PL away defensive record (0.71 conceded per match on average).
Players to watch: Midfielder Trézéguet has scored three of Villa’s last seven PL goals, with all coming in 2-1 defeats.
Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is the PL top-scorer with 14 goals, and has hit the net in seven consecutive league matches, including three penalties.
Stat attack: Villa have won four of the last six competitive home H2Hs.
Villa have only been losing at half-time in one of their seven PL home games this season.
Leicester have failed to score in only five of their last 34 PL away games (14.71%).
