Mallorca and Sevilla haven’t met since 2012/13 and are experiencing dramatically different formlines leading into this contest. With eight of their nine La Liga (LL) or cup H2Hs this decade producing over 2.5 total goals (and five over 3.5), fans will be hoping they pick up where they left off for an entertaining 90 minutes.
With 14 of their 15 LL points collected at home, Mallorca are not to be underestimated at the Iberostar, particularly as they carry into this game a fairly respectable record of: W3, D1, L3, as an outsider at home, thanks to some strong second halves that have seen them win four of five at home when opening the scoring (D1).
Trailing at the end of the first half just once on the road this season, Sevilla’s +6 goal difference across the first 15 minutes of each half in away LL matches has assisted in netting them the opening goal of the game in eight of nine trips (W5, D2, L1).
Cleansheets continue to elude Sevilla, however. After holding their first three hosts scoreless, Sevilla have managed to find just one in six trips since, with five of their ten goals conceded on the road falling after the 60th minute.
Players to watch: Junior Lago has scored Mallorca’s first goal in their last four LL home games, the last three from the spot.
Munir El Haddadi is in peak form for Sevilla, finding the back of the net in three of his last five competitive appearances.
Stat attack: Three of Mallorca’s last four LL matches have seen a player sent-off.
Referee Jesús Gil Manzano has sent-off more players (five) than any other LL ref this season.
Mallorca’s last seven LL matches have produced over 2.5 total goals (four of them over 3.5), whilst just two of Sevilla’s last nine have seen three or more goals.
