Two sides desperate to bid adieu to their ‘underperforming tags’ will come face-to-face when Bordeaux host Caen in a Ligue 1 (L1) fixture this week. With both sides close together in the table and keen to avoid getting dragged into the relegation battle, there couldn’t have been a better context to this match.
The hosts are 13th in the table after 20 games (23pts), but are only four points ahead of the bottom three. It has been a case of steady decline for Bordeaux, who started the season with a seven-match unbeaten run (W4, D3, L0), only to slump in the next 13 matches (W2, D2, L9). In this regard, their 1-0 win over Troyes at the weekend couldn’t have come at a better time!
The visitors are in the middle of a poor run of form themselves and at 12th in the table (24pts), they are only a point better off than their hosts. Their troubles in L1 have seen them pick just one win in their last nine L1 encounters (W1, D3, L5). Again, this is not as poor as their hosts this week, but that is no solace!
Bordeaux have picked up just one win in their last seven matches (W1, D0, L6) in all competitions, that includes a two-match losing streak at home. For Caen, there is no joy of a win in their last six L1 matches (W0, D2, L4).
Key battles: Caen have scored a league-low 12 goals in L1 this year. And, six of those goals (50%) were scored by Ivan Santini. The striker has been the lone beacon in the palette of Caen’s scant goals.
That won’t be the case for Bordeaux’s Malcom, who has seven goals and five assists so far this season. The 20-year-old is linked with the exit door at Bordeaux, but whilst it lasts, enjoy the exciting form of the Brazilian.
Stat attack: Caen have scored just once in their last four L1 matches, while in nine away matches they went goalless in six games (67%) and in the process, scored more than one goal only once (11%). Four of the 12 goals (33%) that Caen has scored, have come after the 75th minute.

Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City Prediction and Betting Tips | England (Premier League)

Liverpool – Manchester City betting tips for today, January 14, 2018.
Kick-off: 17:00
Football: England – Premier League
Tip: Over 2.5 Goals
Odds: 1.55
Bookmaker: Betfair
Match Result: 4:3 WON!!!
Match Preview
In the biggest match of round 23 in the Premier League (PL), Liverpool play host to runaway league leaders Manchester City. Both teams should enter this game on a high: they are the top two teams in terms of form in the league, and both teams progressed from their respective cup matches last week. The last piece of football Anfield saw before this was a dramatic, last ditch win against their bitter rivals Everton, so there should be quite an atmosphere here.
Whereas City have broken records on the pitch all season, Liverpool have spent January breaking records off the pitch. Early in the transfer window they made Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in the world, before it was announced that Philippe Coutinho would be sold to Barcelona for a club record sale of around £140 million. It remains to be seen whether the personnel changes will affect Jurgen Klopp’s men.
We mentioned form, and it is well worth the mention. City’s run of straight PL victories was stopped in the stalemate draw against Palace, but despite this they’ve still taken an incredible 31 out of a possible 33 points from 11 away games! Liverpool, on their hand, are on a 17-match unbeaten run.
They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and it will be interesting to see how Liverpool will approach this game. There’s surely a few hot heads itching to get out there after the 5-0 hammering they received in Manchester back in September. Approaching the big match, Klopp had some honest words about the challenge ahead of them: “It’s interesting to play against City. They play really good and if you don’t respect that, you have a problem. But if you are not brave in your game, you will also have a problem.”
Players to watch: With Gabriel Jesus out with a long-term injury, there are no longer any doubts about who should lead the line for City. Sergio Aguero is his name, and scoring goals is his game -14 goals and four assists is the Argentine’s tally from 17 games so far.
One of only two players with more PL goals this season is Liverpool’s prolific goal scorer Mohamed Salah. The pacey Egyptian is a slight doubt ahead of this game, but if he’s fit, watch out: with 17 goals and five assists he’s been directly involved in more goals than any other PL player this season.
Stat attack: Liverpool are unbeaten at home in the PL, but have drawn close to 50% of the matches (5/11). This game will likely feature four of the top eight on the PL top scorer list (Salah, Aguero, Sterling, Firmino). The teams have averaged 3.5 (City) and 3.4 (Liverpool) goals per game this season – the highest numbers in the league!

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester Prediction and Betting Tips | England (Premier League)

Chelsea – Leicester betting tips for today, January 13, 2018.
Kick-off: 16:00
Football: England – Premier League
Tip: Home Win
Odds: 1.30
Bookmaker: bet365
Match Result: 0:0 LOST
Match Preview
Chelsea host Leicester aiming to stay in pole position when it comes to securing the podium finish that will automatically secure a Champions League spot for 2018/19. The visitors are mid-table and have only the FA Cup to think about, which could make for a comfortable Chelsea win.
This will be the 111th meeting between the two sides with Chelsea having by far the dominant record before kickoff, with 55 wins to Leicester’s 25. No less than 30 encounters have ended all square, with the most recent one coming in May 2016, the end of which marked the official start of Leicester’s reign as Premier League champions at Chelsea’s expense.
Along with historical dominance over Leicester, Chelsea also have a proud scoring record against Leicester. They last failed to do so in a 2-0 home defeat in September 2000 that heralded the end of the Gianluca Vialli era. Chelsea have also scored 3+ goals in six out of the last ten meetings.
Tasked with motivating his Leicester charges in an extremely difficult away day, Claude Puel has not shied away from asserting that he wants to keep star player Riyad Mahrez at the club. The Frenchman said: “He is happy to play with this team. We are trying to develop good play on the floor and he likes this. He has good results with assists and goals in recent games.”
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte knows that his squad must win. One new element he could use to trouble Leicester is new signing Ross Barkley. On his ‘complete’ new signing, Conte had this to say: “He is complete because he has it all. He has stamina, he is strong physically and he has good technique. He is fast. He is a modern footballer.”
Players to watch: Mahrez is always one to watch, but there are others that could catch the eye. Having been a deadly wingback since arriving at Chelsea, Mikel Alonsowas back amongst the goals in Chelsea’s last league outing, scoring the second goal in a 2-2 draw at Arsenal. Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante could also make appearances against their former club.
Stat attack: Defence could be key for underdogs Leicester. It has been at least fifty years since Leicester last won any encounter against Chelsea after conceding the first goal. Doing so against Leicester doesn’t seem to daunt Chelsea, however, with the current Champions getting a comeback win against Leicester in April 2015.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-3 Bayern Munich Prediction and Betting Tips | Germany (Bundesliga)

Bayer Leverkusen – Bayern Munich betting tips for today, January 12, 2018.
Kick-off: 20:30
Football: Germany – Bundesliga
Tip: Over 2.5 Goals
Odds: 1.53
Bookmaker: bet365
Match Result: 1:3 WON!!!
Match Preview
Action resumes in the Bundesliga (BL) after the month-long Christmas break – and how! Champions Bayern Munich will travel to in-form Bayer Leverkusen in one of the more mouth-watering clashes of the week. With Bayern having established an 11-point cushion at the top, all eyes are on fourth-placed Leverkusen (28 points) to breathe a new lease of life into the title race.
The winter break should help add a bit more energy to these two most forward-thinking sides in the league. Leverkusen (34 goals) and Bayern (37 goals) are behind only Borussia Dortmund (39 goals) in terms of goals scored. This game pits the league’s top-scorer Robert Lewandowski (Bayern, 15 goals) against the highest-scoring German in the BL – Kevin Volland (Leverkusen, nine goals).
Leverkusen have remained unbeaten for the past 14 games (W7, D7, L0) in all competitions. It would have been a wonderful run, had it not been for the irritating number of draws! In fact, Leverkusen are unbeaten in the BL at home this season (W4, D4, L0), but the number of stalemates is a concern!
Bayern’s away record is the best in the league (19pts, W6, D1, L2), although both their losses this season, have come on the road. The Champions have failed to score in just one match away from home – in the 2-0 loss to Hoffenheim back in September.
Key battlesLeon Bailey versus Arjen Robben will be the battle of the apprentice against the master! The Jamaican Bailey has been vital for Leverkusen so far this season, with six goals and four assists – with four of his goals being equalisers. The 20-year-old is one of the best attacking midfielders in the league, although the 33-year-old Robben will no doubt counter that. Bayern haven’t lost any of the 14 games (W11, D3, L0) that Robben has started, and his duel with Bailey will be keenly fought!
Stat attack: Bayern have not won at the BayArena in the Bundesliga since back in March 2013, but their last win came with Jupp Heynckes in charge! Leverkusen, for the record, have just one win in their last ten BL encounters (W1, D3, L6).
