Match Preview

Eibar have lost just one of their last seven La Liga (LL) games (W2, D4, L1), and now host a Villarreal side that will be high on confidence after holding Real Madrid to an impressive 2-2 draw midweek.
Manager José Mendilibar’s task of maintaining Eibar’s top-flight status for the fifth season running is going smoothly so far, with his team five points clear of the relegation zone after losing just 35% of their games (W5, D6, L6). However they are winless in their last four LL outings (D3, L1).
Though Villarreal (17th) are a well-drilled side as shown in their last match, the ‘Yellow Submarine’ are locked in a battle to avoid dropping into Spain’s second-tier. The last time they were relegated was in 2011/12 and to avoid the same fate, they will have to improve on a poor run of form that has seen them register just one victory from their last 11 LL games (W1, D5, L5).
The last time these two sides met at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa, Eibar scraped a 1-0 win. However over the last eight H2Hs (at all venues), both teams have three victories each – although Eibar have won three of the last four meetings (W3, L1).
Players to watch: In-form Brazilian striker Charles has three goals in his last two league outings for Eibar. Santi Cazorla, meanwhile, scored a brace in Villarreal’s 2-2 draw with Real midweek, netting his first LL goals of the campaign.
Stat attack: Eibar have been losing at half-time and drawing at full-time in their last three league matches.
Villarreal have conceded at least twice in each of their last five LL away games.
Both teams have scored in four of the last five H2Hs held here, as well as four of Eibar’s last five LL home matches, and four of Villarreal’s last five LL away matches.
