Match Preview

Empoli haven’t lost three Serie A (SA) home games in a row since March 2017, and a struggling Genoa side presents a decent opportunity to maintain that record.
A win is important for Empoli, who start this round just three points above the relegation zone with just one point in five SA games (D1, L4). They have the second-worst defence in the league (39 conceded), with 13 conceded in their last five alone!
Prior to their two straight home SA losses, Empoli had won three on the bounce. Since their first home match this season however, Empoli haven’t kept a SA clean sheet at Stadio Carlo Castellani in nine league games.
Genoa are just three points above Empoli and have just one league win since October 2018 (W1, D5, L8). The visitors have the league’s fourth-worst defensive record (37 conceded) and could suffer even further after the departure of Krzysztof Piątek, who accounted for 52% of their league goals (13 of 25).
Away from home this SA season, Genoa’s record is even worse – just one win all season (W1, D1, L7) and five losses in a row. No side has lost more games or picked up fewer points in SA away games than Genoa, who haven’t kept a SA clean sheet on the road this season!
Players to watchFrancesco Caputo (EMP) has five goals and three assists in his last ten SA games, while Goran Pandev (GEN) hasn’t scored a SA goal since September 2018, but will need to step up now.
Stat attack: 11 of Empoli’s last 12 SA matches have produced over 2.5 goals.
Both sides scored goals in 11 of Empoli’s last 15 SA games.
Eight of nine SA H2H matches have seen under 2.5 match goals.
However, eight of Genoa’s nine SA away matches this season have ended with over 2.5 match goals.
Genoa haven’t lost more than five consecutive SA away games since 1993.
