Match Preview

Defeat to local rivals Liverpool on Wednesday night saw Everton drop into the Premier League’s (PL) bottom three. Grossly out of form, they have lost eight of their previous 11 PL matches (W2, D1, L8), conceding 2+ goals in seven of those defeats. Furthermore, each of their previous four losses saw them concede on or after the 90th minute.
Whilst their defence seems fragile, the ‘Toffees’ can at least boast an adequate attack. They have failed to score in just one of their previous seven PL matches and scored over 1.5 goals in four of those aforementioned fixtures. But their brittle defence, combined with an average attack, has contributed to four of their previous six PL games producing over 2.5 goals.
Visitors Chelsea travel to Merseyside having won seven of their previous nine top-flight fixtures (W7, L2). Their free-flowing attack could pose a real threat considering they have scored two or more goals in 60% of their league fixtures so far. Additionally, they have netted 3+ goals in four of their seven PL away matches this campaign.
Despite their good recent form, the West Londoners haven’t enjoyed their recent trips to Goodison Park, winning just one of the previous five competitive H2Hs held here (W1, D1, L3). Notably, they drew a blank in three of those fixtures.
Players to watchRicharlison remains one bright spark for Everton, having netted three goals across his previous four PL matches – all three were headers.
Tammy Abraham continues to impress this season and has three goals in his previous four PL games – two of those strikes came in the opening half-hour.
Stat attack: Everton have scored 68.75% of their PL goals in the first half.
Chelsea have scored the opener in 80% of their PL matches.
There’s been under 2.5 goals in four of the previous five competitive H2Hs.
