Match Preview
Celta Vigo will be aiming to collect a third La Liga (LL) win on the trot and keep their remarkable momentum going at the expense of Betis, who won 1-0 in this fixture last season.
After suffering back-to-back losses to Valencia and Villarreal, Celta have recovered impressively and are now unbeaten in their last four LL matches (W3, D1, L0). Ahead of this game week, Juan Carlos Unzue’s side sit eighth on 28 points (W8, D4, L8) and will move into seventh place with a win over Betis.
Betis go to the Balaidos Stadium off the back of being humbled 5-0 at home to Barcelona, their second 5-0 loss of the season. The Beticos will be eyeing a third straight triumph away from home, having previously beaten Malaga and Sevilla.
Monday’s clash will mark the 54th top-flight meeting between these two sides (Celta 19 wins, 12 draws, Betis 22 wins). Celta have won just 13 of their 26 home league games against Betis, and it’s been four years since they last defeated the Beticos in LL (4-2, January 2014). Will the wait go on for the Celestes?
Key battles: With 12 goals (42 shots) to his name so far this season, Celta’s Iago Aspas is third in the LL scoring charts, just behind Luis Suarez and Leo Messi. Aspas has also delivered four assists.
Betis striker Sergio Leon has netted eight goals in all competitions this campaign, and six of them have been scored away from home.
Stat attack: Celta have scored 25.7% of their league goals from set pieces.
Betis (GF 33, GA 41) have the highest average total goals per match (3.7) in LL this season.
Only one of the last six meetings in all competitions between the sides at Celta has seen over 2.5 goals. Indeed, only one of Celta’s last five home games in all competitions this season has seen over the 2.5-goals mark.
