Match Preview
Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth are in brilliant form and are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games (PL). They travel north to face an out of form Huddersfield who are winless in their last eight league games.
Ten places and seven points separate the sides ahead of this round of games, emphasising how tight the bottom half of the PL currently is. Although the title looks wrapped up, the battle at the bottom is far from over – as just three points separate 19th from 12th, which may give the Terriers some hope.
After scoring three goals in extra-time to beat Birmingham in the FA Cup, Huddersfield need a league win now more than ever. Their home fans have seen them beat the likes of Manchester United and Brighton, however, that home form is now stuttering. The Terriers have conceded 3+ goals in three of their last five here at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Both sets of fans have witnessed a remarkable rise against all odds to the dizzying heights of the Premier League. Bournemouth and Huddersfield came back from administration in 2008 and 2003 respectively – since then, the former have firmly established themselves as a Premier League stalwart – can David Wagner do the same?
Players to watch: Aaron Mooy (HUD) has been a consistent performer for the Terries for the last couple of seasons – he has a 79.5% pass success rate and four goals this season.
Callum Wilson (BOU) has seven goals to his name, two of these came against Huddersfield in the reverse fixture. He did, however, miss a penalty for the match ball in that game.
Stat attack: Bournemouth have seen over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine PL games, whilst Huddersfield have failed to score a goal in five of their last six.
Huddersfield have conceded 2+ goals in each of their last five PL games, and have won just once at home in the last five league meetings between the pair.
